Spot standards

YYC Skate Spots is a practical map of real street spots. Every new listing and edit must meet all six standards before an administrator publishes it.

  1. It is a real skate spot

Add a fixed, skateable street feature in Calgary or the nearby area, such as a ledge, rail, stair set, bank, gap, or curb—not a meetup point, event, or temporary object.

  2. The listing is accurate

Place the pin on the feature, use a recognizable name, choose the right attributes, and do not add a spot that is already on the map.

  3. The location is appropriate to share

Do not map private homes, schools or sensitive facilities where publishing the exact location could create a safety or privacy problem.

  4. The spot still exists

Do not add features that have been removed, are permanently blocked, or are otherwise no longer skateable.

  5. The content helps skaters

Keep names, notes, and photos relevant. Harassment, explicit material, spam, promotion, and deliberately misleading content are not allowed.

  6. You can share the photos

Upload photos you took or have permission to share, and avoid identifiable people when they are not relevant to the spot.

Review and reporting

New spots and edits are visible only to their contributor and administrators until approved. Anyone with an account can privately report a public listing that is not a spot, is duplicate or inaccurate, reveals a private or sensitive location, is gone or unusable, contains inappropriate content, or is spam or abuse.

A report returns the listing to the private review queue. An administrator can approve it again or remove it. Reports and reporter identities are never shown publicly or to the contributor.

Repeated violations

A confirmed removal counts toward the contributor’s moderation record. After three confirmed removals, an administrator may block that account from adding spots, editing, uploading photos, or sending reports. A blocked account can still browse and delete its existing spots or account.
