A public map needs trust. Here is how your data is used.

The short version

You can browse YYC Skate Spots without an account. The app does not contain advertising, does not sell personal information, and does not track you across other companies’ apps and websites. It uses account information when you sign in, submission data when you contribute, and device location when you choose location features.

Information the app handles

Accounts and sign-in

Clerk provides authentication and handles your email address, available name, sign-in provider, account identifier, sessions, and the administrator role when applicable. Apple or Google also receives the information required when you choose its sign-in option. A Clerk-generated identifier—not your email address—connects your account to app records stored in Convex.

Spots, photos, and favourites

Convex stores spot names, types, surface and bust information, notes, map coordinates, uploaded photos, favourites, and the identity references needed for ownership. Photos are resized on your device before upload. Approved spot details, coordinates, photos, and the contributor name captured at submission become public; email addresses and favourites do not.

Reports and moderation

Reports contain a reason, optional details, the reported spot, and the reporter’s account identifier. Reports are visible only to administrators. Convex also stores review status, standards acceptance, confirmed removals, and contribution restrictions so the community rules can be enforced.

Support messages

If you email support, Cloudflare routes the message to the app operator. The sender address, message, and attachments are used only to investigate and answer the request or address safety and abuse. Correspondence is deleted when it is no longer needed for those purposes; you can request earlier deletion by emailing support.

Location and map services

With permission, the app reads your precise current location to show the blue dot, sort and filter nearby spots, calculate distances, centre a map, or place a proposed spot. YYC Skate Spots does not store a history of your device location. If you deliberately use your current location for a submission, that coordinate is saved as the spot’s public location after approval.

Google Maps provides the in-app map. Its iOS SDK processes precise location for map functionality and collects service data such as a device identifier, product interactions, performance information, crash information, and a service user identifier for functionality and analytics. Google also logs technical request information such as IP address, request time, app name, and SDK version. The SDK declares no cross-app tracking. Apple’s operating-system services may process coordinates for location and address features. Opening directions sends the selected spot’s name and coordinates to Apple Maps or Google Maps, whichever you choose.

How information is used

  • Provide sign-in, saved favourites, submissions, sharing, and account features.
  • Display and improve the accuracy of the public skate-spot map.
  • Review new and edited listings and respond to reports, safety issues, and abuse.
  • Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and support the app and its underlying services.

Service providers

YYC Skate Spots uses Clerk for accounts and authentication, Convex for app data and photo storage, Google for Maps and optional sign-in, Apple for optional sign-in and device services, and Cloudflare for the public website and support-email routing.

These providers receive the information needed to perform those jobs and may process technical service data for security, reliability, support, and product improvement as described in their policies. They are not authorized by YYC Skate Spots to use account or contribution data for advertising or cross-app tracking, and are expected to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable law.

Retention and deletion

Account information is kept while the account exists. Spots and photos remain until you delete them, an administrator removes them, or you delete your account. Open reports are removed after the related moderation decision or when the reporter deletes their account. A compact removal notice and contribution-moderation record can remain while the account exists so decisions and restrictions can be explained and enforced.

Unattached photo uploads are normally discarded after a failed save and are deleted with the uploader’s account if any remain. A token temporarily held to complete Sign in with Apple revocation is deleted immediately after success; an abandoned deletion request expires within seven days. Service providers may retain limited security logs, backups, or de-identified aggregate records under their own retention schedules.

To permanently delete your account and associated app data, open Profile, choose Delete account, and confirm. The process removes your Clerk account, spots, photos, favourites, reports, standards acceptance, removal notices, and personal moderation record. If you acted as an administrator, decisions concerning other users may remain while references to your account are removed.
